About Fortivo

Since 1998, we have been building innovative ventures and organizations focused on some of humanity’s greatest challenges. Our portfolio highlights the range of our experience from satellites to manned submersibles to speech recognition.

Along the way, we learned from our successes (and mostly from our mistakes), and we want fellow innovators to benefit from this experience. For over 10 years, we have worked with a variety of clients whose projects positively impact the world.

We believe that entrepreneurship, exploration, and technology innovation are massive global forces currently changing the course of human history. If you feel the same, then we want to support your efforts.

Guillermo Söhnlein

Founder and CEO

Guillermo is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for exploration. He is an advisor, mentor, teacher, and speaker within his three personal interest areas: space commercialization, ocean exploration, and technology innovation.

In addition to his work with Fortivo clients and portfolio companies, Guillermo serves on the Board of Directors of NuRide and the WayPayver Foundation, as well as the Advisory Boards for the BLUE Ocean Film Festival, Shanghai Ocean University’s Hadal Science and Technology Research Center, and Spike Aerospace. He is a member of The Explorers Club and a Fellow of the Opus Novum Foundation.

Guillermo is also an expedition leader, submersible pilot, and scuba diver. He has organized and led 6 ocean exploration expeditions involving manned submersibles. Diving in Puget Sound, Monterey, Catalina Island, and Miami, these expeditions supported scientific efforts, collected valuable data, transported scientific personnel to key sites, generated volumes of content, and garnered mass media attention. In 2012, one noteworthy expedition discovered a previously unknown sunken WWII-era Grumman F6F Hellcat fighter plane that had been lost by the U.S. Navy 70 years prior.

A former officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, he earned his A.B. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and his J.D. from the University of California's Hastings College of the Law.
